One of the reasons I have always loved hill stations are the cute, cosy, historic cafes located in their main markets. Every hill station from Mussoorie to Shimla has one of these. For Mussoorie, it’s Chick Chocolate – located at the end of the Mall Road (close to Picture Palace), this establishment now run by a father-son duo has been a crowd favourite for locals and tourists alike for over 40 years!
The restaurant has been known for its fruit-cream, waffles, assortment of shakes (peanut butter & oreo, peanut butter & brownie, chocolate oreo, vanilla, strawberry amongst many more) and great selection of fresh homemade chocolates in a variety of flavours such as peanut butter, mint, oreo, almond, nut rock, chill, liquor infused and semi sweet amongst others.
Chick choc has your typical old school cafe feel to it with its walls adorned with movie posters and many post-it notes with customer reviews on them. Apart from their selection of sweet delights, this cafe also provides an assortment of burgers, pizzas, sandwiches, hot dogs, spaghetti, momos, kathi rolls; the list goes on.
It’s simply not possible to try everything in one sitting and although my brief visit to the Queen of Hills didn’t allow me much time to visit them a second time, I definitely will be back at some point to try out more of their sweet and savoury delights. Maybe I’ll be lucky enough to have a small chat with their owner. He seemed like a man full of stories to tell.
